Pet Portraits:All work is oil on canvas or wood panel Backgound: After I adopted my dog Micah I decided to paint a series of works based on neighbourhood canines. It was so much fun that I thought out loud “I would be happy just painting dogs...” Well it seems that the universe heard me (or I just have a knack) and my pet paintings have been in demand ever since. These works are whimsical and contemporary. They celebrate our indulgences as pet owners and all the wonderful characteristics that we attribute to our dogs and cats. Process: Typically I will meet with the owner and their pet(s) for a photo session. Of course if the animal has passed away or if the commission is from another city or country I will work from photos provided. From these photos I will narrow down 4-5 choices that I feel would be good studies and the owner will then pick which photo best represents the animal they know. We will then discuss the colour scheme to be used, and compositional elements. If there is no waiting list I like to take three to four weeks for a painting. There is usually a waiting list. Pricing includes photo session for studies and composition consultation* Examples: 18” x 24”- $400 Each additional pet + $100/$150 *exceptions: I will work from provided photos when there is no possibility for session.
